IVLP Highlight: Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists – Media Responsibility in an Age of Disinformation | Africa
February 17-22, 2024
In collaboration with Meridian International Center and the Office of International Visitors at the U.S. Department of State, we implemented the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) project for Africa entitled, Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists – Media Responsibility in an Age of Disinformation in mid-February 2024.
Our 13 distinguished rising media professionals examined the role of government agencies, non-governmental organizations, academia, and traditional and social media — including efforts in investigative journalism and fact-checking — in the fight against the proliferation of deceptive media and the dissemination of disinformation. Key to these discussions were strategies that support responsible and ethical reporting in an increasingly complex information environment.
Among many successful engagements, visitors thoroughly enjoyed their time at KQED, exploring the benefits of public broadcasting as an alternative to commercial media and the impact of centering coverage on community voices.
